I was primarily responsible to lead all projects in the Middle East region, including UAE, that covered both technical and commercial scopes. As the prime contact for the region, I have managed a direct relationship with the local distributors and their technical staff. I led the product compliance approval process and successfully listed 2 major product lines with Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) - Dubai and Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (ADQCC). The approval allowed us to participate in all public tenders and private projects within the UAE. Eventually several projects were awarded for the supply of energy efficient street lighting products for residential roads and highway applications in different parts of the UAE over the 5-year course of my engagements in the region.
Each project consisted detailed lighting design and photometric analysis, as per EN 13201 standards, using DIALux® and AGi32® simulation programs, technical compliance review, post installation inspection and site acceptance test. During these projects I have coordinated with the local consultants and contractors. I have also liaised with the local transportation department, municipal, and government bodies, and navigated available resources from the Export Development Canada (EDC), Global Affairs Canada, Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI), etc.

Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is the transportation authority in the state of Queensland. TMR is gradually adopting energy efficient, smart city-ready, street lighting solutions for the inventory throughout their jurisdictions. From the Liveable Cities team, I was appointed as the market lead for Australia-New Zealand in mid 2017, and was managing all the projects with TMR and all other utility and municipal accounts across the AUS-NZ market.
We have been awarded multiple projects during the period of my involvement in the region. As the prime point of contact, I managed the relationship with local distributors, end users, and other technology partners in the region. Additionally, I also performed lighting designs and photometric analysis, as per AS/NZS 1158 standard, and maintained technical compliance to satisfy TMR specifications. Majority of the design works were conducted using the Perfect Lite program.
In the late 2019, a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) with networked Tool-less Sensor Platform (TSP) for future smart city applications was successfully established. The PoC enabled users to trial and experience the functionality of the smart city-ready hardware, cellular network connectivity, and the SMARTLINX branded smart city central asset monitoring software.

When it comes to the public sector procurements, most government authorities in the Gulf region follows a similar model. Every country has a regional product compliance approval process in place, so does Qatar! 'Ashghal' is the Public Works Authority in Qatar that defines the specifications and regulates the procurement for street and area lighting products in the country. It was a natural first step to file for the compliance approval. The approval enabled us to participate in all public tenders with Ashghal. Soon, we were awarded one of the signature projects for retrofitting a residential zone with custom golden-color painted street lights!
As per the project requirements, a group of auditors inspected the manufacturing process of the products. As the market lead, I coordinated their visit and the audit process. Throughout the entire project lifecycle, I was responsible to maintain a clear channel of communication with the authorities, consultants, and distributors which was a highly crucial part of the job. I also conducted the lighting designs and photometric analysis as per CIE 115 & CIE 140 standards, using DIALux® simulation program.

Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) is the utility that owns and operates the street lighting inventory in this beautiful Caribbean island. Over the 5-year period at Liveable Cities, I have participated in a number of public tenders with the team, and we were awarded multiple projects for the supply of street lighting products for the nationwide conversion.
We strictly maintained overall technical compliance to satisfy RFP specifications. Lighting designs and photometric analysis was performed as per the IES RP-8 standards. The scope of the project included standard street lighting applications, and a turtle friendly lighting solution, which was one of the most unique segments of the RFP. To address this unique challenge, we crafted a customized lighting product that satisfied the project requirements.

The citywide conversion of Halifax is one of the most exciting, and detailed design oriented works that I have pursued in my career. On this project I have worked closely with the consulting engineers, contractors, and end users to establish a design approach for the large scale conversion project.
In this project, I have prepared simulation designs to calculate illumination levels for a pole-to-pole design approach, prepared lighting layouts and photometric analysis, as per IES RP-8 standards, using AGi32® software, GIS data and AutoCAD®.
